You can schedule a newborn photoshoot at any age, however, I encourage parents to read my handy tips below before booking a newborn session.
When is the best time to photograph my newborn?
The age of your baby can sometimes make a difference in what type of poses we are able to position them in and whether they will like it or not! All babies are different, and it’s not to say that one baby will be easier to pose over another merely based upon age, but generally speaking, the age of your baby can dictate how the session will run.
The best time to schedule a newborn photography session is when they are under 2 weeks old!
Younger babies tend to go into certain curly poses much easier than older babies, they will stay asleep for longer and don’t mind much about having their clothes off if they are kept warm.
What about newborns that are over two weeks old?
You will have gorgeous photographs of your new baby regardless of the age! Over two week old babies are generally more awake and may not curl up as easily meaning you will have a different feel to your photographs. Babies do a lot of growing in their first few weeks and you will want to remember how small they were and all of those precious details.
Where do newborn sessions take place?
I come to you! My studio is completely portable including lighting and props. I believe you are going to feel a lot more relaxed in your own home. All I ask is that there is a large amount of space for the session to take place. Approximately 3x3 metres to be safe.
How long will a newborn session take?
I ask parents to allow anywhere between 1-4 hours for a newborn photography session. This is due to feeding and nappy changes. Some newborns take longer to settle than others, and this is completely okay! If you think your newborn needs something during the session, let me know. There is plenty of time for little breaks.
How can I prepare my newborn for a photoshoot?
It is best to feed your newborn close to your photography session. This may be right before I arrive or while I'm setting up the studio. Have your newborn in loose clothing (outfits, nappies, socks and/or mittens) before the shoot. This will help to avoid any red marks or lines for the nudie photos. Also, do not worry about any little scratches, red skin, baby acne, etc. This is all easily fixed in the retouching process.
Can I request a certain photograph?
Of course! If you've seen a shot that you would really like, feel free to send it to me before the shoot or show me on the day and I will do my absolute best to recreate the shot you love!
Will I have to supply certain outfits?
Most newborn shoots done in the less than two week time frame are done nude. Unless there is a special outfit, hat or headband that you would like photographed, there is no need to supply clothing.
